Photo-A-Day | Documenting my children throughout the year.
This is a rarity.
All of you in a room,
Not fighting.
Sure, it happens on occasion.
For all of you
To play and get along for longer than two minutes.
It’s also a very rare instance for you, Aubrey,
To actually sleep in your room.
I was shocked to find you both,
In the floor,
Sleeping bags spread out,
Laughing about girl stuff (I presume),
Drawing pictures.
I knew I couldn’t sneak in to take a picture,
So I made the decision to capture this
Once-in-a-blue-moon time for you to sleep in your room.
With Haley.
In the floor.
After some giggles over your drawings,
The boys decided to be nosy.
And once again,
A miracle happened:
The boys were welcomed into the room
Of joyous laughter.
(Poor Harper missed out on the laughs,
Sleeping across the hall, contently).
We laughed over more drawings by the artist,
Hee-hawing over them, actually.
Standing on the toy box,
I knew this was a moment to be preserved.
And in the midst of another raucous outburst,
You all looked up,
Laughing,
Happily,
Enjoying each other,
And now I have a moment of fun captured forever.
I know as you guys age,
You’ll find that you will rely on one another.
Through celebrations,
Through things that you try to keep from us,
Through the tragedies and heartbreaks you’ll experience.
I know as children, competitive, and selfish,
It’s hard to really see
How important you are to each other,
But I know that with the good hearts
You all have,
You will appreciate all the fights,
Temper tantrums,
Hugs and kisses,
Pushes and tears,
And one day, look at this image with pure happiness.
Just know that someday,
We won’t be here and you all will be the glue
To hold you all together.
