This family. Oh my gosh! Super beautiful, super sweet, super friendly, super lovely.
My love for shooting family sessions grew exponentially after shooting this session last summer – I loved the happy feeling, the fun location in their orchard, the beautiful white clothing. And I never recommend white clothing, but this mom totally pulled it all together and blew me out of the water!
We started off in the morning, and holy begeezus, it was one of the hottest days of the year! So hot the devil waved as he drove by the orchard! Yep, I said it. At first we were in an open (read: no shade!) location, but when we moved to the orchard, as the sun moved up higher, we were delighted with the nice breeze and cool grass.
I threw out one of my vintage quilts and then let the kids have it, being themselves – laughing, rolling around on the ground (oh no!! white clothes!) and then settle in with Mom and Dad. Sweet little moments of tenderness and Dad even read a book to them – those are some my most favorite images ever!
Then we moved to their old family church – it’s abandoned but had so much character and history behind it, and we used it as the big family portrait (it’s a 20×30 canvas print in their home!). The kids loved running around there, but the heat was almost unbearable, so we had to make it quick.
Needless to say, the resulting images have truly made me love what I do, and love snagging those moments between children and their parents. Because, as a mom myself, we all know that childhood is so fleeting. I read one time that days go by slow, but years go by so fast, and I totally feel the truth in that statement.
Beans, I love you guys! You were so much fun and I loved getting to know you all and your precious little ones! I can’t wait for our next session and hopefully many more to come! And thank you for letting me use your orchard for other sessions! xoxo
