So, if you’re aren’t aware, I’ve been spending a lot of time shooting macro images. Yes, it takes time, lots of it. Oh, and patience and a steady hand, if you prefer to go without a tripod. These are some of the latest images I’ve shot: ladybugs, aphids, slugs, and flowers.
When I saw the leaf with the ladybug, I thought the aphids were actually mold spots on the leaf. Getting a closer view through my macro, I was able to see the little squirmy legs crawling around. They are ugly little critters. I later found out that they are aphids and that they are detrimental to plants, but thankfully, they are a ladybug’s delight to munch on them.
Then I spent some time on the ground shooting very tiny flowers and dandelions. The light purple flower is amazingly tiny, about the size of pencil eraser, if not smaller. The single dandelion bloom is one of my favorite shots to date – very simple and beautiful.
And then I got really down and dirty – digging through moist, cool dirt to find some slugs, and even a snail shell about the size of the tip of my pinky finger. The slugs were very interesting and actually quite funny. They would constantly aim to get back to the dark, moist dirt and slip off of the stick on which I would put them. They’d crawl on it, until they realized that they didn’t like being on it, so they would ball up and then slip off of it. I don’t know how many times I had to put one back on the stick.
I am gradually moving into the field of macro photography, but rest assured, my love of shooting people is still there and that won’t change. But I do enjoy finding a personal outlet in photography that brings me such gratification in my personal shooting. Thanks for all the feedback I’ve been getting and I can’t wait to shoot more random SMALL things!
